US-Taiwan Business Club Summer Networking EventBureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs

The US-Taiwan Business Club Summer Networking Event held on June 25 in New York successfully drew a crowd of over a hundred participants – the largest since its inception in March 2012.

On this occasion Commissioner Kenneth Adams, President and CEO of Empire State Development and Commissioner of the New York State Department of Economic Development, was invited as its keynote speaker. In his 20-minute speech, the commissioner introduced New York State’s Regional Economic Development Councils and their role in helping to rejuvenate the New York economy, and the NY STARTUP bill, which is designed to help start up companies and was just passed on June 21 by the legislature. The participants enjoyed his speech tremendously as Commissioner Adams displayed his knowledge and charm to the fullest.

The two companies introduced were Victoria Cruises, Inc. and Portage Worldwide, Inc. by Chairman James Pi and President and CEO Shu-huey Lin, respectively. They told stories about their companies in a very personal way which touched and inspired everyone.

The networking reception lasted until 9 pm as participants lingered on to talk with their old and newly-made friends. This year’s Summer Networking Event clearly achieved great success as numerous praises were heard throughout.
