The 4th annual Discover Advanced Trends in eCommerce (DATE 2018) expo kicks off this September 27 - 29, 2018, in Exhibition Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center. This year’s event will focus on smart retail, cross-border e-commerce, social media marketing, mobile commerce, and services and innovation in e-commerce. For the 2018 expo, the event will be using micro-booths for the first time in its history to attract more e-commerce businesses, the organizer said. Applications begin today, and applicants who complete the application process before the end of April can book their booths at a rate of 50% of the original price. Online sellers from all over the world are invited to attend this prominent event.

DATE 2018 is organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and co-organized by the Taiwan Internet and E-Commerce Association, Chinese Non-Store Retailer Association, and Taiwan Association of Logistics Management. In DATE, these associations and councils have created the ultimate platform for exchange on the topic of Business to Business to Consumer (B2B2C) in the e-commerce market.

TAITRA observed that the e-commerce market in Asia is growing at a rapid pace, as evidenced by international platforms such as Lazada and Amazon continuing to enter the Asian market. According to Statista, retail sales for the Asia market in 2018 nearly hit the US$2 trillion mark. More e-commerce businesses and e-commerce-adjacent services from Asia are expected to participate at this year’s expo, which will be a platform for exchange between e-commerce operators and a testimony to the reality that the market in Asia is both powerful and growing.

Several valuable activities will be held during the expo, including the DATE Summit, eCommerce Salon, eCommerce Seminar, Startups Seminar, and B2B Matchmaking Meetings. It is hoped that the expo and activities will allow Taiwanese and foreign e-commerce operators to exchange information as well as create business opportunities in online sales.

Last year (2017), prominent attendees included First Bank, Appier, and United China Air Freight from Taiwan, as well as foreign online retailers Rakuten (Japan), BliBli (India), and JoyBuy (China). At the event in 2017, first-time attendee United China Air Freight found several potential partners at the event from Japan, Thailand, and Croatia, and even engaged in business talks after the event had ended. The results of attending, they said, exceeded their expectations. Romy Chen, general manager of Madcradle TW Online Limited, also said that the fruits of attendance in 2017 exceeded the company’s hopes. Madcradle’s booth was visited by many Taiwanese businesses who inquired about services, and there was a high willingness to use the official account on Weixin.

Last year (2017), attendance to the DATE expo broke a new high with over 50,000 attendees. Company attendees included Uni-President, Far Eastern International Bank, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Group, RT-Mart, Taishin International Bank, Jih Sun Financial Holding, Cathay Century Insurance, Guangdong Cross-Border E-Commerce Association, Turkish Airlines, Singapore’s EasyParcel, the Philippines’ CMG Retail Inc., and many others, whose purpose was finding business partnerships. Mainland China, Indonesia, the US, Singapore, Croatia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Japan were the top-ten nations represented on the event floor.
