Creating an Innovative Business Model for the Healthcare Industry to Catch the Business Opportunities of the Anti-ageing TrendIndustrial Development Bureau, MOEA
The world population is aging, becoming a global focus. The aging population ratio of Taiwan is projected to reach more than 35% in 2050, ranking only behind Japan in the world. In order to develop future business opportunities for service industries, the Ministry of Economic Affairs is assisting a group under Taiwan’s biggest salt provider, Taiyen Biotech, to innovate their business model with the healthcare promotion project of the IDB. The new business model transforms the channel style into a platform for facilitating healthcare promotion.
To cope with the future trend of anti-ageing tech, Taiyen Biotech has renewed its channel’s name as “Healthy Family”. In 2014, through quantitative research and many working meetings to get consumer insights, the CDRI (Commercial Development of Research Institute) advised on the positioning and the value proposition of Healthy Family. Moreover, the CDRI designed the product portfolio for specific consumer targets. It took seven months to finish the brand new concept of a channel for the elderly. It serves middle-aged people and older people who cares about healthcare as a total solution, including professional instrument measurements, healthcare knowledge consultation and a customized service model.
The host of the healthcare promotion project, Director Huang Geng-xien, points out that this has never tried before, as well as that it enhances the quality of the brand image. Although the business outcome is better than before, it still needs to be verified with time. However, it is believed that the innovative business model is easier to be replicated and dispersed in the future since it copes only with anti-aging trends.
To expand the service for the middle-aged and older demographics, the main group under the Ministry of Economic Affairs offers assistance in linking many enterprises of the value chain, including home-care assistive devices, organic foods, medical care facilities and related academic institutes on this project. The number of enterprises involved has reached more than ten in first phase to establish the elderly industrial Ecosystem as a joint alliance. A revenue growth rate of 30% is expected compared to last year, representing more than 40% of the consumer numbers. It is expected that the new industrial model can be duplicated to facilitate the whole healthcare promotion value chain by brand building in the future.
